Applications are invited for this permanent position, for appointment as soon as possible. The successful candidate will
join a dynamic team in the Language Development Group in the Academic Development Programme, CHED, and work
closely with the Humanities faculty and other faculties across the university. The successful candidate will report to
the unit head of the Language Development Group.

Requirements:

• An appropriate Masters qualification (NQF9), preferably a PhD, or working towards completing a PhD
• Demonstrated relevant experience in the teaching or tutoring of academic literacies at the undergraduate and
postgraduate levels

• Experience with multimodal teaching platforms
• Demonstrated experience in conducting qualitative research
• Excellent writing and communication skills
The following would be an advantage:
• A background in education or applied linguistics
• Experience in working with a diverse student body
• Experience in research capacity development
• Experience in project management
• Experience in working in a writing centre at a higher education institution
• Proficiency in at least one other South African language, in addition to English

Responsibilities:

• Design and teach on a suite of face-to-face, blended, and online writing courses
• Design, deliver and review workshops on writing
• Train tutors in departments and consultants in the writing centres on aspects of academic writing
• Advise individual students on the writing of qualitative research
• Develop peer research-support forums for students
• Collaborate with qualitative disciplines to design writing interventions at the undergraduate and postgraduate
levels.
• Contribute to academic staff development
• Undertake research, preferably on writing in the qualitative disciplines
• Assist with the management of postgraduate research projects on research writing

The annual cost of employment, including benefits (where applicable) at Lecturer level is R805 385
