To design and implement training programs for retail employees to enhance performance.

To create, develop, and implement all visual merchandising programmes and lead the design of in-store visual displays in support of the company’s sales objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Determine training needs for retail staff
  • Design and document training material for retail staff
  • Conduct onboarding sessions for all new retail staff through various methods to engage employees
  • Perform training sessions on new processes as well as refresher training with all retail staff
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual training calendars to include scheduled training activities
  • Visit retail stores on a regular basis to determine training needs
  • Devise strategies and create programs to enhance employees performance
  • Maintain updated records of training curriculum and material
  • Keep up to date training rosters
  • Create and implement a visual merchandising strategy for the Company
  • Ensure the strategy is in line with the Company brand, products, and target market
  • Generate sketches of visual displays that meet visual design requirements
  • Finalize designs and creating detailed floor plans for display areas
  • Source the props, creative materials, and accessories for displays
  • Change displays to promote new product launches or to reflect festive or seasonal themes together with Visual Manager
  • Ensure uniformity of displays across multiple store locations
  • Assist with delivering of props and printed collateral for campaign
  • Monitor costs and work within budget
  • Train staff in VM standards/Principles of display
  • National bi-monthly and annual audit of stores in JHB/DBN/PE
  • Ensure standards are upheld for store layout/design, store revamps
  • Project manage renovations
  • Coordinate regular maintenance and keep within budget
  • Manage the annual critical path document for each campaign with Visual manager
  • Help conceptualise product special offers & promotions
  • VM & Head of Graphics to conceptualise campaigns & present to marketing
  • Manage in-store display for campaigns across all 24 stores and Hirsch or other partner
  • Support with Marketing opportunities with centre management
  • Any other function which may be required

Minimum requirements

+/- 5 years – Visual Merchandiser

  • Proven work experience as a visual merchandiser or visual manager in retail stores
  • Comprehensive portfolio of relevant visual design work. Working knowledge of current visual merchandising trends and best practices

3 – 5 years – Retail Trainer

  • Previous experience as a trainer -Ability to train workers in various selling techniques
  • Ability to motivate employees to achieve sales targets



Tertiary – Teaching/Training diploma and/or degree in business or similar field

  • In visual merchandising, fashion merchandising, exhibition design, visual communications graphic design, spatial design, interior design, retail management, or a related field
  • In Human Resource, Education or a similar field


  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Accredited Skills Development Facilitator


  • Computer literacyAdvancedProficiency in MS Office
  • Adobe creative Suite – Advanced – Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, or other visual design tools
  • Problem solving – Advanced – Investigate unusual variances and advise as to actions
  • Leadership, and Team Management -Advanced -Effectively communicating and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure success and contribution to KPIs.
  • Planning and time management – Advanced -All materials, persons available for setting up displays and launching of campaigns. Organise décor of media launches, store launches, exhibitions, collaborations, inhouse events
  • Negotiation -Advanced – Sourcing materials
  • Analysis – Advanced -Ability to analyze sales merchandising reports and survey results
  • Finance -Moderate -Convert input/output costs to profitable production
  • OSH & E Act -Advanced -Ensure safety of staff and environment
  • Verbal and written communication -Advanced -Concisely communicate with varying levels of employees and management. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate projects
