A Resident Architect inspects the workmanship, quality, and safety of work on construction sites and reports back to senior managers and clients. Would be required to conduct regular site inspections and checking that building plans are being followed correctly. You’d check that work is being carried out to the correct specifications and legal, safety and environmental standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

Observe the quality and progress of the construction to determine in general that it is proceeding in accordance with the Contract Documents (construction drawings, details, specifications room data sheets). Notify the Project architects & engineering team if the work does not conform with the drawings & specification or requires an assessment by the Architect/Engineer, or Contractor.

Measure and quality check building materials and prepare a progress report required by the Architect/Engineers/ Client

Review Contract Documents with the Contractor’s manager to have a complete understanding of the scope of the project.

Consider the Contractor’s suggestions and recommendations, evaluate them, discuss them with the Architect/Engineer prior to implementation.

Identifying defects and report to the architects/engineers for remedies and solutions.

Review and verify measurements prepared by contractor for payment purposes.

Receive, capture & monitor the drawing documentation issued to the contractor by the architects/Engineers

Attend weekly project meetings with the contractor as the clients representative and report to the Architects in writing on the proceedings.

Sign off the contractors 2m² test area before he can commence the rest of the work area.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Senior Architectural Technologies / Site Architect (SACAP Registered)

+6 years’ experience post SACAP registration.

Site architect /construction management experience

Registration as NHBRC Competent Person is advantageous.

Extensive experience (± 10 years) as a Site architect or Clerk of works.

Prior experience in turnkey projects would be advantageous.

Exposure to multi-storey construction is highly advantageous.

Proven ability in managing multi-disciplinary teams on site.

Must have a good understanding of Autodesk Revit/AutoCAD

Good understanding of NBR and SANS10400
