Introduction
Our client is looking for an experienced Factory Accountant to join their growing team.
The focus for the position is the following:
- Reporting on sales, cost of sales and margins
- Reporting on factory costs, including despatch
- Providing financial awareness to production and despatch departments
- Maintaining a commercial awareness of factory and despatch cost drivers as part of the Costing process
- Stock management, including full responsibility for stock count & accuracy in the ERP System
- Participating in budget preparation
- Overseeing/reviewing weekly wages and supplying weekly wage report to departments

Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Financial Manager, responsibilities include:
Stock counts:
- Co-ordinating monthly stock count procedures
- Counting team training
- Compiling monthly stock count file
- Importing count numbers
- Posting stock cards
- Processing miscellaneous adjustments
- Processing, recording and reporting stock adjustments
- Overseeing Goods-in-transit account
Inventory Valuation / Costing:
- Processing monthly Inventory valuation
- Monthly standard cost update based on BOM’s
- Inventory reconciliation and variance analysis
- Monthly calculation and monitoring of factory overhead recoveries
Works Orders:
- Exporting and Importing Close Status
- Closing and Costing works orders
- Facilitating material changes on works orders
Monthly journals:
- Processing Sales journal to reallocate sales and cost of sales to manufacturing site
- Processing all intersite journals for cross charges
- Processing any related general journals
Wages:
- Overseeing/reviewing weekly wages
- Supplying weekly wage report to departments
- Understanding cost drivers and departmental classifications
Other Factory Costs:
- Understanding indirect Cost of Sales e.g. Print Consumables, Environmental Levies etc.
- Understanding the other indirect costs and their drivers (ie, W&E, maintenance, consumables)
- Understanding the fixed vs. variable contributors to factory costs
Transport (oversee Finance Administrator):
- Understanding the transport routes, available commercial vehicles and third party suppliers
- Understanding the packing/stacking methods for optimum utilisation
- Understanding the time schedules for efficient transport solution
Monthly reporting
- Margin reporting and analysis for stock and packaging
- Inventory and packaging adjustments by site
- Graphs and summaries for dashboard inclusion
- Departmental management information
- Dashboards e.g. Print Consumables
- ‘Tier 2’ general ledger reporting on particularly factory and warehouse costs
- Balance sheet reconciliations for stock & fixed assets
- Schedule and journal preparation for month end procedures
Costing
- Data collection
- Extracting / preparing costing data (financial and operational) from the ERP system (Sage X3) and Qlikview to be used for reporting purposes
- Assessing the need for and managing notional financial costs and / or operational hours for scenario planning purposes
- Creating / reviewing, recommending and implementing the internal controls needed for accurate costing data accumulation and reporting and conducting related internal audits if required
- Data Analysis
- Assess accuracy, integrity and reasonability of costing data, also in light of generally accepted accounting practices; and if necessary manage correction
- Considering and addressing concepts inherent to activity based costing such as machine capacities / constraints, productivity, time and motion studies, breakeven analysis, variance analysis, work and cost centers etc.
- Evaluating changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost and ultimately, selling price
- Maintaining the costing model that generates cost rates per driver e.g. machine rates, packaging, delivery etc. and the Polymer Costing modelÂ
- Overseeing the standard costs and bills of material
- Reviewing for and recommending cost saving initiatives
Ad-hoc
- Participating in budget preparation
- X3 finance team lead, including system administrator, report writing and ad-hoc support
- Performing additional tasks as required from time to time

Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications and experience required:
- Tertiary finance degree (minimum) – B.Com preferred (also consider CIMA)
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a factory/production accountant role
- Sage X3 ERP strongly preferred
- Advanced Excel (e.g. in-depth understanding of pivot tables and data manipulation)
