Introduction

National leader in the Financial Services Sector is looking for an experienced Data Manager to join their expanding team. The successful candidate will need to drive the department to enable the company’s strategy to be a data centric business. You will also need to provide timeous, accurate and complete data to all stakeholders (regulatory, decision makers, actuarial functions, claims and fraud management) for analysis and reporting purposes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide inputs to the COO on the company’s data strategy and ensure the implementation thereof

  • Cooperate with the COO on Data strategy which is in line with business strategy.
  • Project identification and planning to implement data strategy.
  • Management of projects in the data department
  • Implement and manage systems to support strategy

On-boarding of clients

  • New Client system assessment
  • Monitoring progress on system improvements
  • Data cleanup/integration/upload
  • Training and system setup assistance
  • Identify & log risk incidents

Ensure all binder holders provide sufficient data monthly to allow compliance with regulatory requirements and financial processing – DATA COMPLETENESS

  • Oversee that all binder holder data is received and imported to the database
  • Reviews the exception report of all the binder holders who are making use of external system and indicate who did not provide which data on a monthly basis.
  • Oversee communication of completeness processes to stakeholders.
  • Constantly review processes and checklists to identify shortcomings and problem areas
  • Streamline data collection processes to be automated and centralised.
  • Drives cooperation between data department and reporting team to enable the reporting team to report on accurate and complete data on a timeous basis

Ensure all binder holders provide sufficient quality data on a monthly basis to allow compliance with regulatory requirements and financial processing – DATA QUALITY

  • Standardise the minimum AUL requirements for policyholder and claims data.
  • Communicates minimum AUL requirements for policyholder and claims data to necessary stakeholders.
  • Put in place AUL data quality review processes.
  • Manages the quality review processes through data assessment reviews.
  • Distribute results of the data quality reviews to clients and do follow ups to ensure the clients take the required actions identified in the data review
  • Drives cooperation between data department and reporting team to enable the reporting team to report on accurate and complete data on a timeous basis

Improve controls in the Binder holder upload facility to ensure validation of master policy rules

  • Monitor the binder holder upload facility to identify shortcomings and areas for improvement on the system.
  • Make recommendations to improve system and write specifications on the improvements.
  • Monitor improvements to system which is in development.
  • Create and document test procedures to test all changes deployed to the system.
  • Gathers information from clients (users) to ensure the system is working in line with their expectations.
  • Create training manuals on the use of the system and provide training to users.

Risk Management

  • Embed a risk culture and report any risks incidents on a timeous basis.
  • Train data staff on how to identify risks in data.
  • Train data staff on how to report risks identified.

Data security and privacy

  • Implementation of data policies
  • Prepare and maintain the data map which includes the significant data assets
  • Identify data custodians (line managers)
  • Constant training to line managers to ensure data related security policies are implemented in each department
  • Ensure procedures are documented and implemented to classify the various data assets

Team Management

  • Management of team members and provide guidance and coaching where necessary
  • Ensure KPI’s for team members are in place, reviews are performed and discussed with employees.
  • Regular training of staff

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Degree in Actuarial Science
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Exposure to the Life Insurance industry essential
  • Working knowledge of the regulatory environment which the company operates in.
  • Understand the data and business strategy of the company
  • Implementation of strategy
  • Documentation and monitoring of procedures and controls
  • Knowledge and implementation of data security protocols
  • Knowledge of data structures
  • Manage and optimize the use of the company’s data assets
  • Knowledge of latest data trends
  • Ability to identify and address weaknesses in the current data environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Drive stakeholders change management
  • Report writing
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Team management
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (especially Excel) skills
  • Intermediate SQL knowledge

Package & Remuneration

R 650k – R 720k CTC pa
