Introduction

Where you’ll work

A design thinking communications agency that helps organisations in the areas of health, environment, education and economic development communicate their complex research data in innovative and creative ways to impact a variety of audiences.

How you’ll role

The Communications Manager will be a strong visual thinker who will lead development and expansion in communication and information design. This involves oversight for a team that is taking complicated, technical client information and presenting it simply, by developing information graphics and associated products in a range of print and online media. The role requires working collaboratively with team members, but also the confidence and experience to drive a complex project independently within established systems and processes to ultimately deliver a strong product.

Duties & Responsibilities

What you’ll do

  • Supervise a number of account managers, designers and other team members

  • Refine existing and develop new systems and processes as well as the capacity to scale within our current work flows

  • Take responsibility for overseeing projects through from start to finish within agreed time and budget parameters (often overseeing others in doing this work)

  • Set up the project plans and design pathway within our project management systems and monitor budgets and progress milestones

  • Identify and synthesize technical information to visualise as infographics and figures

  • Propose ideas for visualising different pieces of information, including summary graphics, figures and infographics, and creating design briefs

  • Manage and delegate to graphic designers, editors, illustrators and others as needed

  • Adhere to what will be unpredictable and tight timelines, and make plans to complete work within necessary timeframes

  • Ensure that approvals and sign-offs occur at pre-agreed points

  • Oversee quality control at various stages to ensure high-quality and error-free final products

Desired Experience & Qualification

What you’ll need

  •  At least 5 years of project management experience – ideally in design or communication in the health, environment or development sectors – including making project plans, delegating tasks and managing budgets and timelines

  • Examples of great work you have overseen

  • Systems thinking, with the ability to come up with human-centered solutions to scaling our work and improving quality

  • Experience overseeing the management of reports, brochures or other print products with information design elements

  • Experience overseeing the development and maintenance of websites and social media channels (ideal)

  • Experience commissioning and managing creatives from the fields of film, graphic design, web-development, animation, editorial and more (ideal)

  • A high degree of scientific and numerical literacy, to be able to turn complex technical information into effective communication products

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a dispersed team, while ‘owning’ projects and overseeing others – taking responsibility for their delivery on time and on budget

  • Experience working within the UN system or for other large multilateral, government or non-profit groups in the health, environment or development fields

  • Superb attention to detail, while simultaneously being able to keep an eye on the big picture

  • Leadership and people management

  • Self-starter
